Mary Palani @ Sam Media

Our Team: Meet Mary Palani

Our employee spotlight section brings attention to our most important asset – our team members. In their own words, employees tell what it’s like to work for Sam Media and what makes it different from other companies.

What exactly do you do at our company?

I am the office manager in our Malaysian office and take care of the entire welfare of it. I have a lot of administrative tasks like licensing and immigration papers, but I also assist with onboarding new employees and help them with aspects such as relocation and immigration.

So far, what has been your favourite project?

I always love arranging events, like the company trip. This is a very big event and I am looking forward to organising it every year.

How have you found our business culture to be?

We have a very diverse group of people and it’s my role to keep them all together as a family. There is a connection between people in this team. There is a lot of love and friendship within our company and I feel like nothing compares to the business culture we have within Sam Media

"In 2006 I was one of the first employees at Sam Media"

What is the most unusual aspect of working here?

I have been working for Sam Media for 16 years now. It’s so different from the jobs I had before. Our boss is a very interconnecting and inspiring person that keeps everything and everybody together like a successful family. It’s so much fun to come to work every day.

What was the decisive factor for you to want to work for Sam Media?

In 2006 I was one of the first employees at Sam Media. I almost immediately felt hooked to it. I saw the company growing from a small seed to the successful team it is today. It also made me grow into what I am today. It may sound weird but this is my life and I am extremely happy with that.

Do you have a favourite product from the Sam Media range?

I love XR Academy! It’s so impressive and I learned a lot from it. I am not much of a traveller so this product gave me the opportunity to experience other parts of the planet like I am really there.

Please give us an insight into your individual working day. Do you have any rituals?

I start every day entering the office with a cheerful smile greeting everyone. I have a little chat with my colleagues and wish them a nice day before I run off to my desk to start on the most important tasks.

How would friends and family characterise you?

They would say I am often too caring. I always take care of everybody. In the office they call me mother Mary, the mother of Sam Media. Friends would also describe me as friendly and easygoing.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love hiking! I love sports basically. I don’t really care what kind of sport it is. Doing sports gives me fulfillment.

Can you recall the last time you laughed so hard you cried?

I couldn’t stop laughing when I pranked my boss once. He wanted to take a bus to Singapore and while he was on the bus I told him he took the wrong one. I said that the bus was heading to Thailand. He freaked out and wanted to get off the bus because he had an important meeting to attend in Singapore. Then I called him back to tell him it’s actually a prank. For sure we both had a good laugh then.
